The search for meaning in art.

It was an out of the ordinary sunday. I would usually stay at home and sleep the entire afternoon or do other random brainless stuff at home.

But today jessica and I went on an art exhibition excursion. It is an assignment for one of our modules. We are lucky that the Singapore Art Exhibition happens to be this month, so there were various places that we could go.

Our first stop was the gallery at SMU's school of econs/social sciences. It features the works of a leading local contemporary ink painter. They comprise of scenes of Singapore's streets such as Rochor Road and Jalan Sultan.

Next we went to the Singapore Art Museum. I've walked past this building so many times but this is my first time going in. Love the old-school mosiac floor tiles, white-washed walls, green-panelled windows and doors. Photography was not allowed in the exhibit area, so we only managed to pose with the four figures sitting at the entrance.

Our last stop was the tunnel that leads to the esplanade. Artists translate the concept of "play" along the long stretch of wall. Adds some colour and life to an otherwise quiet walkway.

Was definitely a memorable day for me. Not being very artistically inclined, we had some difficulty trying to understand and appreciate what some artists are trying to express with their artwork. There are also some which are more straightforward. Overall it was a feast for the eyes. I'm awed by how different sounds, colours, textures and spaces can be used.

Okay, I'm totally pooped out. Long day ahead tmr, nitey.
